KidsART
ages 4&5 or ages 6&7
Overview: Fun class that has two years of lessons. We spend time using markers, oil pastels, watercolors and tempera paints. Most of the class is spent giving young artists the materials and simple directions they need to explore as well as encouraging them in their work. There are also previews of art foundations woven into the lessons.

Art Foundations
Ages 8 and up and ADULT classes too.
Homeschoolers have special classes at 2:00 on Mondays for levels 2 & 3
Afterschool Students have several classes to choose from. check the schedule.
Overview: Foundational art lessons for new artists as well as those who have been working on their talents for years. Learn how to draw more accurately, learn different techniques for drawing and painting, and learn how to mix colors. The students will alternate through several types of lessons, sometimes focusing on foundational knowledge, other times on specific techniques, and sometimes just having the freedom for self-expression. This course has two years of lessons that students rotate through. Artists work on different projects and use different techniques each of the two years, yet the focus is on the same basic concepts.Click the color banners for more info. This course can be taken for as many years as you like, as the projects are always personal and instruction is one-on-one for much of the class period.

Overview: A mix of the two classes for 2nd-year students and higher.
Art Expressions

Overview: An advanced class for students, who have finished at least 1 or 2 years of Art Foundations classes at Firstlight. This is for students who are stong creatively, and maturing in their artistic thought processes. The focus is on self-expressive projects, with attention to higher-level curriculum, such as color schemes and content. Some assignments are commercial, but most are in the fine arts category.
In the 2nd and 3rd year of Art Expressions, each student works with the instructor to create an individual course for their portfolio, focusing on their chosen direction for the future, whether that be as a professional or as a hobby.

Real Toons & Advanced Toons
Ages 11 and up
Overview: - The regular Toons class must be taken previously, or a portfolio can be submitted to bypass that course if the artist has already develped their work.
This is an advanced cartooning class for students who want to learn realistic, human-based cartooning such as you see in comic books with hero characters and japanese style comics like Manga. It's also for students who do more classic or TV style animation work, but are advancing their skills. It is also good to have had a year of Art 1, but is not required. We'll work on heads, hands, arms & legs, as well as body stance and action poses.
1 & 1/2 HOURS
NEW! Computer illustration with Adobe illustrator
Ages 13 and up
Overview: - This is an advanced illustration class for teen and adult students who want to learn color illustration techniques with Adobe Illustrator CS. This class is directed towards artists who are interested in or have a career as an illustrator or graphic designer. The emphasis is on vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator although it may be helpful to have Photoshop, even though we will not use it in class. scanning, converting to vectors, lettering techniques and layering are some of the topics that will be covered.
This class has a higher tuition rate of $120 per month, and requires a laptop computer, digital tablet, and Adobe software installed. Macs are recommended but PCs will also work as the software is similar on both platforms. The instructor, Dennas, does not provide insight or help with the Microsoft Operating systems because he's a Mac guy. He has been a beta tester for Adobe for two major Illustrator software releases, has taught the software internationally, and is featured in the book, Illustrator Masters.
