Here’s a painting of one of my favorite things. We got this chair in Florida years ago. Actually we have two of them. They are made out of deadhead Cypress wood salvaged from the swamp, and you can’t really find much of this wood any more. The live trees are protected. (a very good thing). The guy who made it owned and ran his dad’s cabins on the beach that we used to stay in, and had been in operation in Destin since the 40′s. We no longer stay at the Murmuring Surf, as they are closed. All of that history is gone now.
Except for the chairs! I love ‘em. They’re all covered over in lichen now, and beautifully grey. In the snow the other day, I had to take a picture with my phone. So then in class last night, I needed to do a painting as a demonstration of this technique, and there’s this great photo of the chair on my phone. I held it up and drew it right off the iPhone.
I’m very happy with the outcome.
