Summertime 2017

We have 3 awesome Summer art programs:

  1. CAMP-Classes – small week-long classes in the mornings – 9 am to noon
  2. The Summer ART Buffet – a drop-in class every weekday afternoon
  3. Creative Workshops – 3-day, weekend workshops for teens & adults

Overviews of each summer program are right below. Click the LEARN MORE buttons to view in-depth info further down the page.

  • Art Garden – age 4 & 5
  • Art Bugs – age 6 – 8
  • Color Camp – age 8 – 12
  • Toon Camp – age 9 – 14

We mashed together two great ideas. We took the week-long Summer Camp idea, and combined it with a fantastic art class. We have 10-12 students per CAMP-Class with 2 instructors in the younger age groups. The fun is like a camp, yet the instruction is very personalized! Our CAMP-classes teach kids real art concepts while having a blast.

  • July 17 – 21

Ages 4 & 5. Plant the seeds for a big harvest of art in your kids. Each day during camp, we make art projects that grow from the heart and bloom with color. Students will create designs, paint flowers and bugs, as well as discover fun ways to make new artwork. All supplies included.

Art Bugs

  • June 5 – 9
  • June 12 – 16
  • July 17 – 21

Ages 6 – 7. Explore the world of art in paint and paper, and draw from a bug’s perspective. We begin the week creating lots of pictures and painting different colors. Each day, we add a section to our giant butterfly poster, and on the last day, there’s a really “big” surprise. All supplies included.

Color Camp

  • June 5 – 9

Ages 8 – 12. Color your world! Learn what makes colors look great by mixing paints each day to make a bunch of beautiful color swatches. You’ll use these in creating a large poster mosaic of a colorful animal. At the end of the week you’ll make an original painted t-shirt with your own design. All supplies, including artist’s acrylic paint, tools and t-shirt are included.

Toon Camp

  • June 12 – 16
  • July 10 – 14

Ages 9 – 14. Jump into the world of cartooning. Learn how to develop characters, give them expression, and make them come to life. You’ll create characters in air-dry clay to take home, as well as on paper. Finish the week creating your own comic book with a color cover! The week of work is collected and bound in a take-home book.

Workshops at Firstlight

Our specialized in-depth workshops for teens and adults are great for delving deeper into difficult subjects. We offer several workshops that are 10 hours each. 4 – 6:30 pm Thursday and Friday, and 12:00 noon to 5 on Saturday

  • Figure Drawing – TBD
    • Most of our time will be spent working on sketches and drawings from live models (wearing leotards) as well as drawing demonstrations by the instructor. Various techniques are used such as contour line and shading to create realistic and expressive figurative work. Ink, charcoal, pencil and watercolor is used.
    • $298
  • Easy Artists Perspective – TBD
    • Understanding how to make structures appear to have an accurate illusion of depth can be very frustrating. Typical classes are too complex to be practical and are designed for architects. We will demystify and explain all this left-brained stuff in a way that can be used by the right-brained artist! We’ll create drawings in pencil and ink.
    • $280
  • Painting Trees – TBD
  • Color Workshop in acrylics – TBD

Covering specialized subjects, our workshops go further in-depth for these areas of interest than we are able to in our regular classes. The students who have attended have raved about how much they’ve enjoyed themselves and how much they’ve learned! If you have an interest in taking your work to the next level, then a workshop is for you.

Register for Workshops soon (TBD)

You’ll can make your Workshop payment with a credit or debit card on our new Parent Portal by iClassPro. (Please continue with payment checkout after entering payment method.)
