Here’s a painting of one of my favorite things. We got this chair in Florida years ago. Actually we have two of them. They are made out of deadhead Cypress wood salvaged from the swamp, and you can’t really find much of this wood any more. The live trees are protected. (a very good thing). [...] Here’s my latest. The colors are quite vivid, all done as glazes, which catch the light. 18 x 24 inches. Acrylic and pencil on deep edge canvas. Have you ever wondered why there are two hot primaries and only one cold, but there are two cold secondaries and only one hot. Weirdness! Well read on for enlightenment on these and other color [...] Here is a good example of me getting bored and doing something really different. I had a lot of fun with this, using watercolor, acrylics, colored pencils and oil pastel together on a watercolor panel (not paper, but a special board with a clay coating to simulate paper). If you try really, really hard to [...] This is a thick painting, unlike a lot of what I’ve been doing. I kept getting more and more paint on the canvas. Then I went back the next day and added a ton more. Instead of working within a certain style, I tend to do whatever the painting seems to need. 16 x 20 inches. [...] I was tempted to name this a goofy pun, “Stapleations”. But once I began writing, it seemed better to say that I almost did, but didn’t. So I did. Anyway, I really love the old machine with its deco styling. 16 x 20 inches. Acrylic and pencil on board. This is the second and last of my Christmas paintings done at church during worship and lessons. The theme of the sermon was peace, and how it means more than we usually attribute to this word. The Hebrew word, Shalom, carries some of this deeper meaning. The scripture from the lesson, which is also written [...] Here’s a painting from yesterday. I really like the shadows and colors in a pomegranate that is under a strong light. I tried to capture the reflected light on the bottom half. We are finally finished with all of the gingerbread houses in the art classes, so paintings are getting back on track. I made about [...] It’s not every day that a visual artist gets the opportunity to share the experience of painting in a performance setting. This painting was done this morning in the Narthex at Christ Community Church. I spent 4 hours setting up and painting it from blank canvas to finished art, and enjoyed every minute of it. [...] I began this painting several months ago, and finally got around to finishing it today. This is in a former style, so that’s why it doesn’t seem to fit as well.
