Weekday Mornings

We mashed together two great ideas. We took the typical week-long Summer Camp idea, and combined it with a fantastic art class. We have small class sizes (12 students for art camps, and 14 for toons) with 2 instructors in the younger classes. The fun is like a camp, yet the instruction is very personalized! Our CAMP-classes teach kids real art concepts while they’re having a blast.

Weekday Afternoons

Weekdays all Summer. This is an afternoon drop-in class, just choose a project & get personalized instruction. Our popular daily art classes are every weekday afternoon from 1 – 3:30 pm, from end of May to the first Friday in August. Ages 6 & 7, ages 8 & up. Teens & Adults. It’s a custom-made summer art program just for you.

Weekends

Our specialized in-depth workshops for teens and adults are great for delving deeper into specific subjects such as

Easy Artist’s Perspective
Adobe digital programs
Advanced acrylic Color,

Workshops are 10 hours each. 4 – 6:30 pm Thursday and Friday, and 12:00 noon to 5 on Saturday.

Easy Artists Perspective

June 28, 29, and 30

Understanding how to make structures appear to have an accurate illusion of depth can be very frustrating. Typical classes are too complex to be practical and are designed for architects. We will demystify and explain all this left-brained stuff in a way that can be used by the right-brained artist! We’ll create drawings in pencil, charcoal, pastels, and ink.

$275 supplies included.

Advanced Acrylic Color

July  12, 13, and 14

Expand your knowledge of color. Most of what we learn in standard art classes is far to simplified. This leads to frustration when artists do what they’ve been told should work… but it doesn’t. While complex, the world of color and pigments is fully understandable. Dennas explains how light from various directions is colored, and how to mix vibrant shadows like the impressionists. (Color workshop contains some information from our advanced Expressions curriculum).

$275 + $25 for supplies if you don’t have your own.

Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

July 26, 27, and 28

This is a fantastic course for anyone who wants to know how to work with these two fundamental desktop/laptop programs by Adobe. Firstlight founder, Dennas Davis, teaches this workshop. He was on the Adobe Beta team for several years in its early developmental stages, and has taught Illustrator internationally. The workshop is approached from a beginner’s perspective, but even if you’ve learned a little bit already, you’ll walk away with a much greater understanding about how to use these powerful programs alone or in tandem, for photo manipulation, effects, artwork, and creating graphics for print and web applications.

$345 requires your own laptop computer (3 years old or less) and installed up-to-date software.

Workshops at Firstlight

Our specialized in-depth workshops for teens and adults are great for delving deeper into difficult subjects. Workshops are 10 hours each on weekends: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

4 – 6:30 PM Thursday and Friday, & 12:00 NOON to 5 PM on Saturday.

All workshops are taught by our founder, Dennas Davis.

Covering specialized subjects, our workshops go further in-depth for these areas of interest than we are able to in our regular classes. The students who have attended have raved about how much they’ve enjoyed themselves and how much they’ve learned! If you have an interest in taking your work to the next level, then a workshop is for you.
