About us
The Gallery at Firstlight
An art gallery isn’t just a nice store for paintings. A great gallery is more than that. Art tells stories. Community revolves around our stories, and a place that can bring together artists, patrons, students, and friends, in sharing and coversation is vital. The gallery at Firstlight will be open to everyone. Come, stay a while, and bring your friends.
We’re a studio gallery. The walls are covered in art with professional lighting and presentation, but shelves of art supplies share the space, because Firstlight is also an art school. When the gallery is closed during the week, art students are learning and growing in their creativity and skill. It’s a really great place to hang out.
The gallery does not sell student work.
We’re showing the work of professional, experienced artists. As the founder, the gallery showcases my work, but we also plan to have guest artists and shows as often as possible. Special events are also in the works. We’re planning a Civil War historical music evening this fall.
We want to help art buyers who are looking for something special, not trendy. Our artists have a personal vision – an expression of their experience and viewpoint, rather than catering to a market. Check out the ARTISTS page to read the artist’s statements, and the ARTWORK page to view a sample of the work.
We showcase original paintings in many different styles, in sizes from very large to quite small. We also have prints made by hand as well as giclée and metal prints (pronounced, “zhee-clay”).
When you come to the Gallery at Firstlight, there will always be at least one artist hosting your visit. If you’d like to meet with an artist you’re interested in, we encourage you to ask! It may take a bit of work to set up a time, but it will be a great gallery experience.
So this is your invitation – to visit us at the Gallery at Firstlight. Our goal is not just to move art through the door, trading it for cash. Our goal is to discover the next owner of our work, to trade value, and make a new friend.
We’ll make you a cup of tea, an espresso, or cappuccino, and answer any questions you have. We might tell you some stories and listen to some of yours.
As well as being a smart investment, art should make a very personal connection to you, the art owner. It should make you happy every time you see it.
So that’s what we’re all about. We’re just trying to be a little more purposeful, and add some meaning to this crazy, beautiful world we get to navigate through together.
Look closely at the beauty in the world — and marvel.
