2019 Summer Art Programs

Firstlight Has Three Awesome Programs Every Summer. Learn all about our Camps, Drop-in Classes, and Workshops, below.

Our ArtBugs Camps were full, so We just added another ArtBugs July 22 – 26!

Summer Art Buffet Ends On Friday, August 2nd.

Weekday Morning

Ages 4 – 14 • We mashed together two great ideas. We took the typical week-long Summer Camp idea, and combined it with a small art class. The result is our super-popular day camps.

We have small class sizes (12 students max for art camps, and 16 for toons) with 2 instructors in the younger classes. The fun is like a camp, yet the instruction is very personalized and empowering. Our Camp-classes teach kids real art concepts while they’re having a blast.

Weekday Afternoons –
The Summer Art Buffet

Ages 6 to Adults • We call our afternoon drop-in class The Summer Art Buffet because it’s all about a great experience for you. Just choose a project from the menu, & get personalized instruction. It’s like a private lesson but with other people working around the room too. We begin weekday afternoons at 1 and usually get everyone situated by 1:30. Then there are two full hours of creativity going until we finish up at 3:30 pm. All through June and July. Young students have one room while older kids and Adults are in another. It’s a custom-made summer art program just for you.

Weekend Workshops

Ages 13 to Adults • Our specialized in-depth workshops for teens and adults are great for delving deeper into specific subjects.  If you want to take control of your art, you’ll see great improvement as our founder, Dennas Davis, shows you exactly how things work in a way that makes is easier to understand. This year’s Workshops:

1. Adobe digital programs
2. Be A Big-Time Artist!

Workshops are 10 hours each. 4 – 6:30 pm Thursday and Friday, and 12:00 noon to 5 on Saturday.

We Have Summer Workshops for Teens & Adults

1. Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

May 30 – June 1

This is a fantastic course for anyone who wants to know how to work with these two fundamental desktop/laptop programs by Adobe. Firstlight founder, Dennas Davis, teaches this workshop. He was on the Adobe Beta team for several years in its early developmental stages, and has taught Illustrator internationally. The workshop is approached from a beginner’s perspective, but even if you’ve learned a little bit already, you’ll walk away with a much greater understanding about how to use these powerful programs alone or in tandem, for photo manipulation, effects, artwork, and creating graphics for print and web applications.

$295 – Requires your own laptop computer which must be less than 3 years old and the most recent version of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, installed and working. If you do not have these, you will not be able to participate in the discussion or demonstrations. You also must have a good understanding of how to operate your computer. If you fall behind, the instructor cannot wait for you to catch up. (We will not be working on mobile versions of Adobe software.)

2. Be A Big-Time Artist!

July 25 – 27 Moved to Aug 1 – 3

This is a big canvas workshop. Go big this summer on a canvas to match your artistic vision. Everyone will be working on a 4 foot square, gallery-wrapped deep-edge canvas, which is included in the price for the workshop. These canvases do not need frames but can be framed if desired.

We will begin with visualizing and sketching, before moving into a layered approach using color, texture and other techniques. The subject choice will be up to the student, although we will have easy reference materials and great suggestions for what to do and how to express yourself. The goal is to have fun and create – in a big way!

$315 – 48″ x 48″ canvas
$295 – 30″ x 48″ canvas

Canvas is included! Add $32 for quality acrylic paints and other materials if you don’t have your own.

(Regular MSRP of 48x48 canvas is $181.25)
(Regular MSRP of 30x48 canvas is $129.40)
